To get children involved in local history is one important topic of our curriculum.
But there were no school books about Buchloe`s history and many teachers in our school don’t live in Buchloe. What to do?
Mrs Schlund, our head teacher and Mrs Herb had a wonderful idea. Why not write our own book.
So, two teachers of our school created two goblins. They are called Buchix and Gennix, named after the river Gennach next to our school and the name of our town, Buchloe.

Buchix and Gennix are very old. They live in the river Gennach and in the trees for many thousand years.

But till today you can see and hear them, hiding in our school and in the surroundings and listening to children, teachers and to our caretaker.
While listening to the children they remember important historical dates of our town.

So, the pupils got interested in the local history and tried to find out dates and events.
All children of our school got involved.
1st and 2nd grade pupils created boys or girls from different times.
They also interviewed living persons and wrote about their personal details.
What did he or she play? Where did he or she live?
What did he or she look like?
A writer, Mr Jost-Hof was invited.

One lesson Mr Jost-Hof worked with every 3rd and 4th grade.
He initiated a brainstorming.
Children collected ideas how to write a story about an important date including the characters the 1st and 2nd grade children made up.

The work of class 3a
The important historical date was the big fire in Buchloe in 1818. Anna and Kreszentia were the main characters created by class 2 …. Mr Jost-Hof explained the historical events.
Every child wrote a story full of imagination and excitement about Anna and Kreszentia in the big fire.
It is very useful for history lessons in 3rd and 4th grade. Children, teachers and parents love reading stories about the history of our town.
