Seven School Wonders

Connecting through Pride in Our Schools

Here is our First Wonder: The Green Flag

Hello, our names are Mary-Kate, Micheal and Ryan. We are all eleven. We go to Whitechurch NS. We have two green flags and we are getting our third one next week. We did a project about water this year to get the green flag. Ireland, Poland, Spain, Italy, Turkey, England Romania, Finland, Germany and Greece are all doing a project with us called SEVEN SCHOOL WONDERS. Each school will tell the other schools about special things about their schools. We are telling the other schools about our school. They send us pictures and gifts. The gifts are very cool.

Here is another account written by pupils in 6th class:

We got the green flag for the third time. We are using the green flag on the seven school wonders. Our school has the green flag in the front yard. We try to keep are school clean because we are a green flag committee. To keep are school clean we do litter patrol. We do projects every year. The colours of the green flag are green, blue and white. Our teachers try to keep the school clean as well. The green flag is very important to us. We have bins for our rubbish so we wont be litterbugs.

Our school Whitechurch NS are trying to receive our third green flag. This year the theme is about Water so we made lots of projects about Water. This year 5th and 6th class created projects for the green school flag renewal. Our school has received two Green Flags already so we are trying to get our third flag. Fifth and Sixth class made charts on the computers, made graphs, did experiments and made books. Some people laminated and binded the books, others drew pictures and typed up stories to add to the books. We had great fun making the project.

Here is a look back to some work we were doing in 2005...

Our Green Flag 2005

ENERGY CONSERVATION

24-Hour Temperatures

We put thermometers in all the classrooms in the school. We left the thermometers in the classrooms for two hours. Then we checked them and recorded the information on a sheet of paper. The temperatures were checked every two hours for two days. We checked them at half past nine, half past eleven, half past one and the teacher checked them at half past three. We made graphs and charts on the computer and printed them off.

The equipment we used:

Five thermometers

1 pencil

3 sheets of paper

1 computer
