Seven School Wonders

Connecting through Pride in Our Schools

History of the school

The building works of our school started at the end of 1978. Thanks to the work and devotion of many people the first school year began in September 1980. There was a lot of work in the beginning. Pupils worked together with teachers and parents to decorate their school. Next year the gym and the swimming pool were completed.

On June 1st1982 there was a big ceremony and our school got its patron - Maria Curie-Sklodowska - a great Polish scientist who received The Nobel Prize. That was a choice of all pupils. Near the main entrance of our school there is the carving of our patron. We also presented our school anthem which words were written by pupils. Since June 1st 1984 we have had our school flag. On May 9 th1988 The Room of National Tradition was opened with documents about tradition and history of the school, region and the patron. On the same day the reading-room in the library was opened.
Since 1990 our school has been the member of The Club of Leading Schools in Poland. We also have a special school medal which is the prize for the best pupils, teachers and school workers.
There were 1686 pupils learning in our school in the first school year 1980/81.
The biggest amount of pupils - 2434 - was in the school year 1984/85. This school year we have 1133 pupils.

In the school building there are two schools: Primary School 8 and Junior High School 8. The former is for children aged 7-13, and the latter for pupils aged 13-16. There is one headteacher, 3 deputies, 99 teachers, 34 social workers, 34 classrooms, 2 computer rooms for ICT lessons. We have a library with 7830 books. There are many sport facilities: a swimming pool, a gym, a sauna, a fitness room, outdoor football pitch, basketball and tennis courts. There is also a kitchen and a canteen where we eat our lunch.

The patron of our school

The patron of our school is Marie Sklodowska-Curie, a great scientist known not only in Poland, but also all over the world. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, studied physics and chemistry at the university in Paris. There she met her future husband – the professor of physics Pierre Curie. They conducted some research on radioactivity and discovered two radioactive elements – polonium and radium. Marie Sklodowska-Curie received the Nobel Prize two times. For us she is the example of wisdom, knowledge, modesty, diligence and  nobility. Every year on 7th November we celebrate the birthday of our patron. It is a very important and cheerful day for us.

School colours

The life of a pupil is like a fruit. From day to day it gets more taste and takes shapes. That is why, the apple is the symbol of our school. There are three symbolic colours. The apple changes its colour according to the age of pupils. For the youngest pupils the colour is green -  it symbolizes immaturity, yellow colour is for older children and red is for the oldests.

Mature fruit -  mature mind -  mature person
