
The building works of our school started at the end of 1978. Thanks to the work and devotion of many people the first school year began in September 1980. There was a lot of work in the beginning. Pupils worked together with teachers and parents to decorate their school. Next year the gym and the swimming pool were completed.
On June 1st1982 there was a big ceremony and our school got its patron - Maria Curie-Sklodowska - a great Polish scientist who received The Nobel Prize. That was a choice of all pupils. Near the main entrance of our school there is the carving of our patron. We also presented our school anthem which words were written by pupils. Since June 1st 1984 we have had our school flag. On May 9 th1988 The Room of National Tradition was opened with documents about tradition and history of the school, region and the patron. On the same day the reading-room in the library was opened.

There were 1686 pupils learning in our school in the first school year 1980/81.
The biggest amount of pupils - 2434 - was in the school year 1984/85. This school year we have 1133 pupils.
In the school building there are two schools: Primary School 8 and Junior High School 8. The former is for children aged 7-13, and the latter for pupils aged 13-16. There is one headteacher, 3 deputies, 99 teachers, 34 social workers, 34 classrooms, 2 computer rooms for ICT lessons. We have a library with 7830 books. There are many sport facilities: a swimming pool, a gym, a sauna, a fitness room, outdoor football pitch, basketball and tennis courts. There is also a kitchen and a canteen where we eat our lunch.
